Binge Drinker

Let’s start at the end – Stefan’s got a taste for blood, and it looks like he’s not going to be to control himself.  That last scene, with Damon walking in on him, was awesome – he even looked drunk.  But as we saw in the preview for next week, the problem might not be that Stefan isn’t himself, but rather that he’s finally being what it is he’s supposed to be.

Which is a thought I had a few times tonight.  When Elena looked so scared that Stefan was killing a vampire and getting lost in the act I mockingly thought, “oh no, my vampire boyfriend’s a vampire!!”  What exactly does she expect?  These domesticated vampire stories are supposed to have the excitement of massive self restraint.  We’ve had much commentary on the chastity-porn nature of it all.  But the message here is flawed – because when it comes down to it, vampires represent the quintessential bad-boy fixation of teenage girls.  You date a womanizer, he’s going to cheat.  You date a junkie, he’s going to get high.  You date a vampire, eventually he’s going to suck your blood.  That’s who he is.  That’s what he does.  And I for one am looking forward to seeing straight laced Stefan let loose a little and fly that bad-boy flag!

I’m confused about Vickie, though.  We all watched her die as a vampire, so how do they have her body now?  Do they have her vampire body?  That doesn’t seem right?  But if not, what do they have?  What I’m really intrigued by is the fact that Jeremy seemed to figure it all out and want to follow his true love (really?) into eternal undeath despite the fact that Damon had compelled him not to remember any of what happened.  Are we to think that Jer has a bond to Vickie deeper than any compulsion can persuade?

Anna did crack me up, though.  So there’s these four reasons, and four reasons only, why a vamp would turn someone: to do her bidding, revenge, boredom or real true love.  But apparently there’s one more – coz your mum pisses you off!  Really?!  I guess it moved the story along quicker, but it seemed a little silly that she would toss her moral code out with such ease.  What she’ll do now that she knows Jeremy wasn’t wanting to be turned for a serious crush on her (a close second to love, I guess), I don’t know.  I guess we’re left wondering how this woman scorned will unleash her fury.

We got a little more insight into Pearl tonight – she really is trying to rise above pettiness and integrate into the town without violence.  She’s walking a fine and fascinating line here – one that a vampire so moral as Harper is sure to be incredibly helpful on.  Was Stefan wounding Harper to make it look like he had escaped?  We never came back to that.  I continue to be excited to see what happens with Harper – his role is continually hinted at but never confirmed.  There’s more to that kid, I think.

Best line of the night – Damon’s, “I’ve got 2 liters of soccer mom in the fridge” – priceless! His teaming up with Alaric tonight was great too, and given that Isabel was turned willingly, I’m left hoping that Alaric and Damon will end up joining forces again in the future.  Perhaps these two jilted lovers will help each other find their lost ladies – there’s got to be some connection between Katherine and Isabel (both of them being related to Elena).  I bet these two mortal enemies will put aside their bourbons and their issues at some point and win their loves together.

  2. okay here’s my opinion in reply to your article;

    About Vickie: well her body didn’t turn into dust did it when she died? nope, she just like wrinkled i think. lol. anyways damon was the one who disposed her body so i dont find it weird or questioning how she popped up (her body).

    About Anna: well i think she started loving jeremy. you could tell from the way she’s protecting him from her mother and she’s always hanging out with him. but now jeremy and his horrible butt went and totally using her. i didn’t see that coming =/ poor anna!

    About Harper: uhhhh Stefan didn’t wound Harper O-o Fredrick, the bad vampire that kidnapped Stefan, was the one that wounded Harper. He tied up Harper onto the chair and staked his two thighs so he can’t move or escape. Harper was not agreeing to what that dude was doing to Stefan.
