It’s Go Time!

Um, did Modern Family just jump the shark?  I’m hoping not – I’m hoping this was just a weird blip…a weird blip of way over the top product placement that got taken to too much of an extreme.  Because that just felt weird.  Did it make me want an i-pad?  Yes, more than anything in fact.  Did I want an i-pad before I started watching?  No, not really.  Will I still want one in the morning?  Meh, probably not so much.  And how much endorsement cash did Modern Family get for a completely i-pad centered episode?…I’d love to know – if any of you readers know, please do comment it below.  The weirdness of the apple thing is a real shame because the episode had so many other great things going for it! Desmond’s Back!!

with 6 comments

Yey Desmond!  Oh, how many of us hoped the hope that it would be him hidden in Widmore’s sub?  Even all beaten and drugged, it was great to see Mr. Hume again but what, I wonder, will his role be? And how will it be connected to Widmore?  Outside of this great reveal, this episode felt like one of the slower ones, making me realize that the show has us in a funny pattern.  At this point, we know if we’ve just had a great episode, the following week will dip a little.  It seems that they’re trying to avoid having an unrelenting build in excitement to the final episodes, and I actually think this pattern works.  But let’s look at what we did learn. So Say We All

I’m pretty bummed Caprica is going on break – but boy did they leave us with an action packed, fun episode to keep us on the hook!  This one was framed by Zoe’s escape, and the slow reveal of the 20 hours prior, leading up to the deaths or potential deaths of a pretty significant number of characters. You Can’t Handle the Truth

While I love this show, this episode didn’t feel so great to me.  It had all the things that make it fun – broody brothers, vampire/human show-downs, mysterious twists and a rigged bachelor raffle.  And yet it didn’t quite capture the greatness of some episodes past (and I’m not just saying that because they sent my beloved Bonnie away).  Nevertheless, we had some interesting reveals – all of which produced more questions than they did answers. Whuck!

with one comment

2 yeys for tonight’s episode – first, yey we got to see Floyd again and second yey, we got a strange new word from Liz!  So if you didn’t catch it (and thanks to my husband for explaining this one to me), Tina Fey has invented the word “whuck” which she hopes will catch on from last night’s episode – it means, Read the rest of this entry »

Nice to Meet Me

with one comment

Well, I got what I’d been asking for – a truly ensemble episode!  I think Angela got to speak more last night than she has all season.  Plus, we got to see Kelly and Ryan AND Creed on Dance, Dance Revolution (although I have to admit, I really really wanted to see Andy up there!).  We got a good dose of Kevin (back to his fairly disgusting old self trying to make Pam’s boobs leak with the creepiest attempt at a baby noise I’ve ever heard).  And we finally got a little movement on the whole Oscar and Matt love / hook up story.  When the Office spreads itself out like this among all its great cast members, I actually enjoy Jim and Pam too – and I was so happy to see Pam get to have her night out after being stuck at home with the baby.  She was really cute as she reminded me of so many of my friends venturing out as first time mums, thoroughly enjoying the presence of everyone over the age of 10. If You Were That Kind of a Gay…

Jay’s attempts to support Mitchell continue to crack me up.  With his attempts to show  how open-minded he longs to be about his son’s lifestyle, he mostly manages to communicate his vastly stereotypical understanding of that lifestyle.  Even so, they come out as sweet attempts to encourage his kid; a skill he attempted to pass on down to Manny last night too.  This was perhaps the first time we’ve seen Jay really admit that Mitchell might be better at something than he is.
